  1. Question: Describe your rout to the location and what observations stood out the most during your traveling experience to the site?
Answer: I had a very long trip from my my house in South gate, which is located in the outskirts of Los Angeles. It was approximately an hour and 50 minutes, and the trip consisted of 6 different buses plus a 5 minute walk in Downtown LA. The rout passed thru 3 different cities. The fist, South gate which consist of manly homes as well as parks and other recreational centers. The second one was the city of Huntington Park which I thought had more businesses and very little residential areas, but the parts that was residential was extremely crowded. And lastly I got to see the way The city of Angels transformed within a couple of streets from decent size homes to crowded small apartments and very tall buildings.

Question: What observations stood out the most at the site?
Answer: It was really interesting how the California Club had one main entrance, while the other one was used by workers and members who did not want to be seen.
the very few windows the California Club has seem to be located in parts of the building so no one could snoop around. Places like the second floor or hiding behind tall trees. Because it is a private club I was not allowed to go in but from what I got to see some of the furniture from the 20’s looked very luxurious and well detailed. As well as the more modern accessories the building has.

Question: How are your partners travel photos different from yours?
Answer: It seems like my partner had very favorable weather. As she mentions in one of her pictures she got take the railway, which seems like a very fun experience. Manly because I’ve never taken the train, and she got to travel with a view of the LA River with very little traffic, and very few stops.

Questions: How are your partners travel photos similar to your own?
Answer: Well some similarities are the fact that we both took Public transportation. the fact that because we are not members of the club we were not allowed to go inside. So the race and gender had o influence on being allowed to go inside. Both of us payed a small amount of money to get to a very fare distance, and we both took advantage of visiting the LA Library since it was next to the California Club.

Question: Why do you think your experiences are similar and/or different? ( Ex; were you traveling from completely different locations? was it rush hour or the middle of the day? are you a Los Angeles native or is the area of Los Angeles new to you? How did your form of transportation change your experience?
Answer: Even tho we both took public transportation I believe it was a very different experience. First I am traveling from the out skirts of LA and had to take several buses to get to downtown. I am also a “LaLa” land native and therefore I’ve never had to take a bus before, since in Los Angeles everyone owns a car because we know nothing in LA is walking distance. So having to not use my car and take the bus was putting me in a very stressful situation. In LA it takes about 30 minutes to get to any place and if you take the bus you can spend about 1 whole hour. On a happier note using public transportation made me realize how lucky I am to be able to have such a resource to get from one place to another on a very short budget, the only thing you must have when using Public Transportation is a lot of patience.

  2. Question 1: Describe your route to the location and what observations stood out the most during your traveling experience to the site?

Answer: I went to my location the California Club by 76 metro bus on last Friday. The bus station just behind the CSULA housing and I often take 76 bus go to market in Alhambra, so this was not my first time to take metro bus. I get on the bus around 11:30 and spent $1.75 dollars to buy a ticket. When I sit down I found that there were mostly Asian on the bus, the old is in the majority. Although this was a rush time when I took the bus, the traffic was not busy. On the way to the Downtown, I found the LA River that professor mentioned in the class, the river is almost no water. The observation stood out the most during my traveling experience is, downtown’ buildings have a great sense of design when the bus enter into the downtown. These wonderful buildings make me feel amazed because there is no modern buildings around my living environment. Especially the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the design of this building makes me feel very shocked and very creative architectural design. I think I will go to this Hall in the next time and have a good visit.

Question 2: What observations stood out the most at the site?

Answer: When I reached my destination “The California Club” around 12 am. Because I have seen this club on the book and online website so I can easily recognized this brown building. The California Club located on the Flower Street. The California Club surrounded by tall buildings around and the design of California Club is also different from other buildings around. California Club was established in Los Angeles in 1887, so this building’s design is retro-design, is not modern style. And the observation stood out the most at the site is I can’t enter this building. Because this is a private and senior club, you must be a member of the club or staff of the club that you can enter here. I can only stand outside and took some photos, I feel a little pity but it does not matter, because I know this is a rule.

Question 3: How are your partner’s travel photos different from your own?

Answer: After looking my partner project, I think we have some different experience on traveling. Because we live in different places and our point of departure are different. My partner took a longtime on the bus and lots of stops, but I only took one bus and few stops on my way. And I also found some interesting views and took some photos on the way to the location, my partner only take some photos about bus and bus station, but I know our routes are different.

Question 4: How are your partner’s travel photos similar to your own?

Answer: About our similar parts, I think we both take same public transportation, Metro Link. We have same location, the California Club, both of us did not enter inside because we are not members of the club, so we just stood outside and took some photos of entrance. And we also visit the Central Library because the library just close to the California Club.

Question 5: Why do you think your experiences are similar and/or different? (Ex. You are travel from completely different locations. Was it rush hour or the middle of the day? Are you a Los Angeles native or is the Los Angeles area new to you? How did your form of transportation — ex. Bus vs. MetroLink — shape your experience?)

Answer: As for me, I am an international student and this is my second year of living here. But the metro bus is not strange for me and this was not my first time to take bus. As for my partner, although he is a native speaker, he said this was his first time to take bus and also felt stressful so I think we have different mood to finish this project on traveling. And we live in different spaces and our point of departure are also different, and my partner spent lots of time on the bus and I only spent 30 minutes. Although I think the bus is a convenient public transportation, but you need a lot of patience for waiting the bus come to the station, just like my partner said: “the only thing you must have when using Public Transportation is a lot of patience.”
